Purpose Driven Life
Thanks to all Vestry for your commitment to the growth of our parish.
I am excited that you are all interested in reading and discussing "Purpose Driven Life" via the blog. I think it is significant that you all chose a forum that allows us to interact as a group. I think this is an important first step in growing our congregation and I eagerly look forward to our online discussions.
Regards,
Melanie

Okay, so here's the big 2 for me....trust and surrender. My family would tell you that I have "control issues", (of course I disagree completely, but don't most control freaks?). My heart wants to trust, and I think I'm getting better, but the surrender part is my sticking point. How do I surrender and let go? I hear people say they just let God take care of it, but I simply don't know how to do that. Is He going to swoop down and tell me which is the right decision? I have always envied people who seem to feel that close a connection, and wondered if there was something wrong with me. There have been a couple of times in my life that I felt strongly led to something - becoming a teacher in the inner city was one of those times. But they are very rare for me. That is one of the things I want to work on during this Lenten season. Surrender
Chapter 1 - It all starts with God
"It's in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone." Ephesians 1:11
So if the purpose of our lives fits into a much larger, cosmic purpose that God is working out, what does that mean for all of us being at St. Michael's at this particular time?
I hope that it means that there is a reason for all of the turmoil we have been through, and that God has put together a community of faith for His purpose. I'm so encouraged by the way this vestry has come together and "hit the ground running". I see good things for us and our work. Through all of the fifty years of this parish, there have been many times that it could have, maybe should have, folded up and gone away. And yet, we're still here. That has to be a testament for God's purpose in us - for God's mission. If we believe that all things come of Him and He has a greater plan, then St. Michael's MUST fit into that plan, or we would be gone. I'm standing on faith that in His time that plan will be revealed. Until then, I feel blessed to be working with this group of people to discern His mission for us.
